Jay Bouwmeester's 'Iron Man' streak ends at 737 straight games
Of all issues to end Jay Bouwmeester's 'Iron Man' NHL streak, it really had to be a lower body injury from stepping on a crack in the ice? Seriously.
Either way, the 31-year-old Blues blueliner did not play in Sunday's game against Winnipeg. According to coach Ken Hitchcock, it was because Bouwmeester stepped on a crack in the ice in Saturday's game against Ottawa. This ends Bouwmeester's streak of consecutive regular season games played at 737 ... and a place in the 'Tony Stark Iron Man Hall of Fame.' We actually just made that up, but Tony Stark is cool.
From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
"Bouwmeester left the ice in pain in the third period of Saturday's game and did not return. The club labeled it a lower-body injury afterward. He was seen walking out of the locker room with no noticeable difference."
It's kind of funny, the blog notes that Bouwmeester was asked about the streak Friday, the day before the game where he got hurt.

"I've never really kept track what that streak is at ... the number or anything like that. You don't think about it. You just approach it like you want to play. Most guys, if they're able to play, they're going to play. But you're not going to do anything that's going to take away from the whole team thing."
Many others were keeping track, Jay. Bouwmeester's streak started in 2004 and is the fifth-longest in NHL history. The longest is Doug Jarvis at 964.
