Logically, Jaromir Jagr and the Montreal Canadiens were a good fit.

He was interested in signing there a few years back before he signed with Omsk in the KHL. His Czech national teammate Tomas Plekanec is there, and Jagr could have found a home on his wing. Plus, it's Montreal, and he'd be a Hall of Famer caliber player in a hockey mad market.

On Sunday, Jesse Spector of The Sporting News reported that the Habs were the front-runners for Jagr, "having offered a one-year, $3 million contract to the 40-year-old winger who was third on the Philadelphia Flyers in scoring last season with 54 points."

As with many things in the free agent frenzy, Montreal's opinion appears to have changed on Jagr. From Rick Moffat of CJAB Radio in Montreal, GM Marc Bergevin of the Canadiens told Jagr's agent Petr Svoboda they weren't going to pursue him:

"Bergevin called me this morning and told me they have no interest in Jagr," Svoboda commented to CJAD 800.

Jagr's seeking a salary upwards of $4 million, because to the surprise of no one it's about the money for Jaromir Jagr.
