J.S. Giguere’s ridiculous glove save after Wild player crashes net (Video)

There are 2-on-1 saves in hockey, and then there are saves when the goalie has one opponent firing the puck and another one practically underneath him inside the crease.

Such was life for Jean-Sebastien Giguere on this remarkable glove save on Thursday night. Check that last replay for the full effect.

Near the end of the second period in Denver, Minnesota Wild forward Kyle Brodziak rushed into the Avalanche zone and cut in on goalie Giguere. Instead of getting a shot away, he crashed into the netminder and the two of them ended up in a heap.

Cal Clutterbuck of the Wild followed the play and fired a backhander for a layup goal. That is until Giguere flashed up his glove and made one of the best saves of the season.

Alas, Nicklas Backstrom outdueled him in the game, making 37 saves in the 1-0 shutout win for Minnesota.

Great save, top saves of the year. But is it better than that Mike Smith save?? I dunno, that's tough to beat..

Excellent save if you turn off the annoying homer-ific commentary.

Exactly how are they being homers? Jiggy's career in a nutshell? He makes an amazing save to keep his team in the game. Kind of like that year he won the Con Smythe even tho the Ducks lost in the finals. Jiggy's best save of the year? Lots of folks out there are saying it could be the save of the year so far for the NHL. It certainly is his best this season. He stays with it? Umm, he does. What a save/remarkable? You said yourself it was excellent.

The Altitude guys are certainly homers, but nothing about that call was homerish. To think otherwise is ridiculous.

You said it, they're homers, and they're just annoying to listen to. I was just suggesting that you press the mute button, and reading anything else into it is hilarious.

That wouldn't have counted if it had gone in, so it's not really a *save* is it?

He kept it out, there was no penalty on the play; thus it's a save. It would have only been considered incidental contact, so it's a save if he makes it or the play is simply blown dead if he doesn't.

The referee had his whistle to his mouth preparing to wash out the goal if it had gone in, but still a brilliant save.
