New York Islanders GM Garth Snow traded away a fan favorite when he gambled on the acquisition of Thomas Vanek earlier this season. The fan favorite came back to haunt the Isles on Tuesday night – and the New York fans let Snow hear their displeasure.

Winger Matt Moulson returned to Long Island for the first time since the Oct. 27, 2013 trade that sent him to the Buffalo Sabres in a multi-part deal for Vanek. Now with the Minnesota Wild, Moulson opened the scoring at 12:23 of the first period and closed it out with a power play goal at 16:34 of the third, as the Wild topped the Islanders, 6-0.

After cheering Moulson on both his goals, Isles fans had a full-on heel turn in the third, chanting “WE WANT MOULSON!” as the Wild mopped up the game.

Ouch.

Now, of course, this could mean that they want Snow to somehow convince Moulson to come back to the Islanders in the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, which would likely involve massive amounts of groveling, Charles Wang money and promises that he’ll never leave John Tavares’s wing.

Or it could be a final punch to the gut over the Vanek trade, which ended with disastrous results for Snow.
