An illustrated guide to NHL players that logged 1,000 or more games with one team

Patrik Elias recently played his 1,000th game in the NHL, all of them with the New Jersey Devils. That got Puck Daddy infographic ace Dan Gustafson of SixteenWins.com wondering about the rest of the players who logged 1,000 or more games with the same franchise. Here's how he broke it down:

Need to discern between which Howell brother played with NYR, there were two that played with the Rangers on D and only Harry played more than 1000 games.

Holmstrom will be up there in a month. 990 games with Detroit.

That's why this list is published now.

What about players like Sakic that spent their entire career with one franchise that was moved?
      • Rich 4 months ago
It's tough to say whether or not to include Joe Sakic. I would be inclined to say yes, but I understand why the infographic did not include him.

Technically, Modano, while playing for both the North Stars and Dallas, did play over 1000 games with Dallas. Then again, I'm pretty sure Doan didn't play all of his 1000 in Phoenix.
      • chaosof99 4 months ago
Actually, Doan played more than 1000 games with Phoenix. He has 1119 career games before the start of the season, and only 74 of them he played when they were the Jets.

The name that really pops out to me is Holmstrom. that guy might be one of the most underappreciated players in the history of the league. To play that kind of role, for that many games with one team, is simply amazing. In fact, him and Draper are the only true "role players" on the list, best I can tell.

Er, isn't Iginla still an active player? Or did I miss something during work today?
    • fpdoc  •  Arrington, Tennessee  •  4 months ago
Legwand is not one of them, I could swear it's been a million games with him here in Nashville.

      It feels like it anyway.

Dang yo! Sundin needed 19 more games to make a 1000 as a Leaf. To think the Leafs were so close to being #1 at something... besides losing, of course.

"Projected" gets Lecavalier on the list?? Holmstrom in Detroit and Phillips in Ottawa (both at 990 games b4 2nite) should get projected before him...

i know it doesn't seem like it, but Iginla is still playing for the Flames, I saw him in action the other day.

    • Bryan  •  Charlotte, North Carolina  •  4 months ago
Add two more to Detroit. Pav and Z will get to 1000 as well.

This should be "Players who have played 1000 games with 1 team, and have ONLY played for that team." Now THAT is an accomplishment! No disrespect for those players who don't make that cut.
