An illustrated guide to the Minnesota Wild’s misery when Marek Zidlicky plays

Defenseman Marek Zidlicky has been many things for the Minnesota Wild this year: atrocious on the ice, insubordinate in the media, a healthy scratch in the press box for Coach Mike Yeo.

But to really gauge his negative impact and general terribleness in 2011-12, Puck Daddy's infographics ace Dan Gustafson of SixteenWins.com has created this handy visual aid to The Zidlicky Conundrum:

zidFrom Gustafson: "Not that I think he's the reason they've crapped out (there are many reasons), but it's really weird how bad they are when he's in."

One assumes this will be someone else's problem by the trade deadline. Along with news anchors, left-handed relief pitchers and NFL punters, puck-moving defensemen are always going to be (a) on the move and (b) coveted by someone.

(Dan will be working with Puck Daddy on creating some whimsical and informative NHL graphics throughout the season. If you have any requests, email us at puckdaddyblog@yahoo.com. Visit Dan at Sixteen Wins and follow him on Twitter here.)

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY WOULD YOU PUT UP A "GRAPHIC" LIKE THIS .. We were likely going to have a difficult enough time shipping him our for a bag of pucks as it is with a 4 mill cap hit still for next season!!! Now we'll be lucky to get a half full bag of pucks and a broken stick!!! #$%$ you Puck Daddy!!!

I'm sure somewhere, Chuck Fletcher is not thrilled with this being published today.

Interesting but it makes much more sense to look at pre/post Bouchard injury (sustained during game vs Winnipeg). 2.63 g/g before, 1.84 after. 2.13 ga/g before, 3.20 after. 17.0% PP before, 10.6% after. 85.5% PK before, 78.3% after. 10.2% shooting before, 6.5% after. 71.7% points earned before, 30% after. But no suspension on the boarding. Thanks Shanahan.

Change it to points per game played and you can have an unlimited number of anti-Zidlicky checkmarks

There was a reason Nashville was glad to get rid of him.

Is it just me or has there an impressive track record of defensemen excelling in Nashville and then being average to below average after? Zidlicky makes me have a lot less interest in the two Nashville free agents from this summer. Weber will be good anywhere, but I bet he takes a step backwards.

If Weber does go elsewhere, he will also (probably) no longer be defending next to Suter on a regular basis. Another reason why he might take a step back.

Keep hoping that cause Weber is the real deal and will make his d partners look a lot better(possibly because they wont be on the ice as much when he eats up 30 mins a game)
