Habs bully Flyers: Ryan White ejected for elbow; Alex Galchenyuk’s brutal hit (Video)

The Montreal Canadiens have been more physical under coach Michel Therrien, it’s been one of the factors in their surprising success. But against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night, a couple of Habs got a little too physical against their foes.

Here’s Ryan White at 6:11 of the first period, destroying Flyers defenseman Kent Huskins with what officials deemed to be an elbow.

Kurtis Foster jumped White after the incident, earning a double-minor that include an instigator for being the aggressor in a fight while wearing a face shield. White was given 5 minutes for elbowing, 5 for fighting and a match penalty. Huskins didn’t return.

It wasn’t an elbow – it was a shoulder. But it was a head shot, so it’s just a matter of whether the NHL felt White targeted Huskins’ noggin on the hit in thinking about supplemental discipline.

Meanwhile, rookie Alex Galchenyuk was making friends.

Galchenyuk took this boarding minor at 18:30 of the second period, plowing into Ruslan Fedotenko and sending the forward into the boards hard. Fedotenko would return for the third.

Hard to believe there’ll be any supplemental discipline for what’s just a minor boarding penalty if there were was one.
