Goofy KHL goal celebration alert: Andrey Stepanov scores, slides and poses (Video)

The Russian Kontinental Hockey League may not have the best players in the world, and definitely doesn't have the best goalies in the world. But gosh darn it, they know how to celebrate a goal over there.

Here's the latest viral celly from Andrey Stepanov of Amur, tying Metallurg Novokuznetsk on a late third-period power-play goal on Tuesday … and then sliding through the neutral zone on his back, his head resting on his glove.

Please tell us that was all orchestrated for some girl he spied during warm-ups; if so, there's no justice in the world if that was his last scoring opportunity of the night ...

Metallurg won the game in a shootout, 3-2.

So in the last year, we've had a baseball slide celebration after a goalie gaffe; Evgeny Kuznetsov rowing the kayak after a goal; and goalie Ilya Ezhov getting in on the act with his dub-step victory dance.

Yeah, yeah, yeah … act like you've been there/show some class/all that jazz. We all know this stuff wouldn't fly in the NHL, what with the braying censors in the media sucking the enthusiasm out of players like ennui vampires. All most of us ask is that we see these celebrations at appropriate times … like scoring the game-tying goal late in the third period, for example.

With that, we salute you, Andrey Stepanov, and your 1970s Playgirl centerfold pose in the neutral zone.

i don't like this soccer-style-celebrations. i prefer the team hugs ... the other thing is just egocentric and bad for the hockey ...

There's a mistake, Andrey Stepanov of Amur, not Metallurg.

      wow, what a one-timer!
celebration is a bit over the top, though

One of my favorite things about hockey is that I don't have to put up with this kind of thing from players. It was a team effort to get there. You are not all that. Put it away.

It's a copy of soccer goal celebration.

I'd LOVE it if the stiffs in the NHL allowed this kind of stuff. It's not like the league prohibits it, but because none of the players in the league have a sense of humor and despise being made fools of, this kind of celebration would lead to a punch in the face.
Because, you know, bare-knuckle boxing in a team sport represents class and dignity while having fun and being jubilant has no place in the sport - especially during a meaningless regular season game.

I look at the NFL and hear players say all the time they look forward to some of the shenanigans in the endzone. Lots of players said they couldn't wait to see what Ochocinco had up his sleeve.
But in the NHL, this is SERIOUS! THIS IS HOCKEY! There's no room for Ned Braden's in this group of stiffs.

last year 1 game (two points) separated the 4th place seed (home ice in the first round) and the 8th place seed in the West; one other game behind that was out of the playoffs, so tell me again about these "meaningless regular season games".

And if we are going to jump sports in this argument I will quote a great from your home town team, when talking about endzone celebrations Berry Sanders said "act like you have been there before".

I like seeing the emotion of a goal or TD but when it takes on the spectacle then you start looking like a clown posing for attention or a jag-off trying to rub it in faces of your opponents and yes in Hockey the latter will get you in a scrap.

There's an internet meme of a fat guy sliding in and out of camera frame down a slip-n-slide doing the same pose. I think he's parodying that.

Call me old-fashioned but I'd take a good enthusiastic hockey hug over that amount of braggadocio any day.

I hope Artem Anisimov doesn't see thisand get any ideas. I could just see the TB jerks like Lecavelier and Downie to going after the defenseless kid again.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah … act like you've been there/show some cl#$%$/all that jazz. We all know this stuff wouldn't fly in the NHL, what with the braying censors in the media sucking the enthusiasm out of players like ennui vampires."Should read "We all know this stuff wouldn't fly in the NHL, what with the goon on the other team ready to kick that pompous showoff''s #$%$ the first chance he gets." Remember the Anisimov incident against Tampa, and you have your proof. And yes, Stepanov would've gotten his #$%$ kicked before he came to a stop.

Things like this better not ever make it in to the NHL.
