Despite a big win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday, it’s been a massively disappointing season for the Philadelphia Flyers. Some of that can be attributed to injuries, but the Flyers have been woefully inconsistent and underwhelming.

Flyers chairman Ed Snider was at a dedication for a “Walk Together Forever” statue outside of the Broad Street Bullies Pub on Saturday, and addressed the state of the team before next week’s trade deadline. From Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly:

He gave general manager Paul Holmgren a vote of confidence, but when asked about coach Peter Laviolette, he deferred to Holmgren.

“I don't want to talk about anything about when the season ends, who's safe and who isn't safe,” Snider replied. “These are decisions Paul Holmgren is going to have to make, not me.”

Eeeek … might want to update that LinkedIn account, Lavy.

Snider discussed injuries as a major factor, including that career-ender to Chris Pronger. But one place where Snider claims he isn’t concerned: Between the goal posts.

From CSN Philly:

Snider wanted the club to sign Ilya Bryzgalov to a long-term deal, and despite the Russian’s up and down season, the chairman still stands behind his goaltender.

“I don't think Bryzgalov has been the problem,” Snider said. “I mean, he's had to face so many breakaways and 2-on-1s where we turn over the puck suddenly. I think it's the team. I think we're fine in goal.”

The Flyers have 31 points in 34 games, sitting four points out of the No. 8 seeded New York Rangers (35 points in 33 games).
