Flames' Andre Roy suspended for pregame 'contact' vs. Hawks

Hey, turns out the NHL's bizarre, inconsistent supplemental discipline system weighs incidents in the pregame skate as heavily as it (allegedly) does incidents near the end of the game. From the NHL this afternoon, news that it has dished out a suspension in that contentious Calgary Flames/Chicago Blackhawks series:

Calgary Flames' forward Andre Roy has been suspended for one game and fined $2,500 (the maximum allowed under the CBA) as a result of an incident in the pregame warm-up last night when he initiated contact with Chicago Blackhawks' defenseman Aaron Johnson.

Roy's suspension will be served on Saturday night when the Flames meet the Blackhawks in Game Five of the series.

What, no anger management? After all, one assumes that this suspension fits under the NHL's "repeat offender" policy after Roy's previous exhibitions of uncontrollable behavior.

Haven't found any video of the incident in question, but we'll update when details become available. (If anyone has some insight, please post it in the comments.) Roy must have pulled out a pistol if he gets the gate but Adam Burish didn't for headhunting at the end of Game 3.

The Flames will certainly miss Roy in the lineup. How does one replace 3:44 of ice time?

The bottom line is that this series is a powder keg of a series. The NHL can deny sending the teams a memo; but it's clearly sending a message today.
