Warren Jansen officially followed through on his ‘puppy goal’ promise to his children Reece and Cole.

According to the Ottawa Citizen the family recently picked up a 40-pound husky mix they renamed in honor of Ottawa Senators sniper Bobby Ryan.

Before the Ottawa Senators’ Jan. 24 game against the New York Rangers, Warren promised Reece and Cole he would get them a dog named ‘Bobby’ if Ryan scored a goal. The children held up a sign during warm ups and tried to make sure Ryan, who has scored 30-or-more goals four times in his career, saw their request.

The kids had been bugging there father for three months for the dog and Warren believed he could lessen their nagging if he made the bet and won.

At the 19:40 mark of the second period, Ryan pushed a puck past Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist that set off euphoria in the Jansen family. Warren jokingly said he shouldn't have chosen someone with such a goal scoring background.

The kids initially said they wanted a Pomsky, but they seem happy with what they chose.

“He was really cute,” Reece said according to the Citizen. “He has a nice, little orangey colour.”

Ryan saw the story and showed his approval on Twitter.

“This makes me extremely happy! Congrats to the Jansen family!” he wrote.

The dog also has his own Ottawa Senators doggy sweater.

The Ryan situation led to a bit of a ‘puppy goal’ craze in the NHL. The next day at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, a fan gave a similar request to Columbus Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson. He delivered with a hat trick.
