Kane reportedly was in some pain. You can see him grimace following the hit in the video. The played occurred with 9:31 to go in the third period.

The Sabres acquired Kane last season from the Winnipeg Jets after the forward had season-ending shoulder surgery. He played just 37 games for Winnipeg a year ago. In 2011-12 he scored 30 goals in 74 games. Since then he hasn’t played a full 82-game season in a non-lockout year, his highest total was 63 in 2013-14.

Kane currently has three points in eight games this season. He's also a minus-5.

Buffalo traded forward Drew Stafford, defenseman Tyler Myers and prospects for a package including Kane and Zach Bogosian in hopes that the forward could rediscover his form with a fresh start.

Coach Dan Bylsma had no update on Kane after the game. Kane tweeted he would be back "ASAP."

The Devils beat the Sabres 4-3 in the game.
