Eric Comrie, Team Canada World Juniors hopeful, debuts Captain America mask

Here's one goalie mask you can "Marvel" at.

(I'll just pause and let you appreciate that remarkable opening line. Please, hold your applause.)

You're looking at the mask of Winnipeg Jets' 2013 2nd round draft pick Eric Comrie, who will be playing with the WHL's Tri-City Americans this season, and fittingly, has chosen a very American mask, with Cap himself, all muscles, bulge and shield, on both the left side (above) and the right side (below):

The mask was painted by Alberta-based artist Jason Bartziokas, who was kind enough to share some of his early sketches of the design with InGoal Magazine.

I like everything about this very stars-and-stripesy mask except for one thing: While Comrie, half-brother of former NHLer Mike Comrie, will be suiting up for the Tri-City Americans this season, he also recently tended the goal for the Canadians -- as in, Team Canada -- at the World Junior Championship evaluation tournament in Lake Placid, New York.

In his first game, an exhibition date versus Finland, Comrie impressed national program goaltending consultant Sean Burke, making 37 saves in a 5-3 win for Team Canada. He could conceivably be on this team.

And in that case, his superpatriotic mask is obviously borderline offensive. This guy could be Canada's starting netminder next winter and he's going to be wearing this in the meantime? Unconscionable.
