Dennis Seidenberg caps off Bruins’ comeback with a red line slapshot (video)

With 21 minutes to go in Tuesday night's game, the surprising Ottawa Senators led the Boston Bruins 3-1, and they looked well on their way to starting off the back half of the season with an impressive and dominant win over one of the league's best teams.

But then Milan Lucic cut the lead in half only 45 seconds before the end of the second period, and you began to get that nervous feeling. The Bruins are 6-8-1 when trailing after two, good for a .400 win percentage. The next closest team? The Nashville Predators, with a win percentage of .278 when trailing after two. Basically, give the Bruins an inch in the third period, and they'll take a mile.

So when Brad Marchand tied the game up only two minutes out of the second intermission, Craig Anderson simply ceded the mile. That's about how far out Dennis Seidenberg was on the game-winner:

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that Craig Anderson could use a hug right about now.

In case it wasn't clear that a lot of things have gone the Boston Bruins' way this season: Dennis Seidenberg capped off a two-goal comeback with a slapshot from center ice.

Take heart, Ryan Miller. The Bruins can embarrass goaltenders from as far as 90 feet away.

Puck had weird physics on that one. I'm fairly certain the Bruins are actually in a three-year-long elaborate scheme with the Vancouver Canucks to meet each other in three successive Stanley Cup Finals, and all the plans involved include magic pucks and whistles with a ratcheting thread made of carbon fiber that choke referees who go against them.

I am pretty sure it was the third shooter from the grassy knoll that put that puck in......

Yeah the refs fire the puck from center ice, dinged shots off the post and had bad defensive positioning. Stop whining and start winning, Senators.

Obviously the ref had a laser pointer he was flashing at Anderson to distract him...

Laser pointer? That won't work on Anderson. The refs used strategically placed ice girls. We all know Anderson won't even break his stare long enough to blink when they're around.

      deflected

I think it was a bounce on the ice near Carkner, but I don't think it hit him.
      • Andre Laverdiere 3 months ago
It didn't deflect, I think it was actually going wide, but because Anderson came out to stop it, it went in off him.
      • Doh 3 months ago
Didn't deflect off Carkner... merely skipped and Anderson had trouble picking it up.

Absolutely embarassing refereeing out there. O'Rourke should feel ashamed for his entire family. Kelly Fraser himself said it already; fire O'Rourke from his job because he's no good at it.

Time to get the league involved. Go ahead and say I'm crying or whatever you internet tough guys wanna say, but that was a disgrace.

Not to mention the imaginary penalty shot vs. LA....

You think Kerry Fraser has a credible opinion on an official competence? That's, like, an oxymoron.

Unfortunately, the real story of this game is horrible officiating once again. I mean, I hate blaming the officiating, because they certainly didn't lose the game for the Sens, but they sure as hell didn't give them any chance to stay in it.

Bad calls usually come back your way at some point, but to have the Bruins go a whole game with no calls? Ridiculous. It wasn't even because they "just happened to play disciplined." No, there were VERY obvious calls, and even more obvious opportunities to makeup those missed calls. Yet nothing.

If anything, this means the hockey gods will be very kind to the Senators for the remainder of the season.

Are you serious? The Sens were flopping like a bunch of fish out of water in the third, falling over if any of the Bruins even breathed on them. I'm actually surprised the refs didn't go for it, considering how little love they've given the Bruins of late.

Hmm, you sound like you didn't watch whole game then... or perhaps you are a fan of the #$%$ #$%$ that Karlsson diving in the opposing team's slot again, eh? That must be why he doesn't have any points...They got O'Rourke-d again, plain and simple. Monkeys could see that.

I think this was perhaps the hockey gods making up for some ridiculously officiated games early in the year.

That puck rose like 18" in the last 40 feet of it's travel. It may have ticked off the ice before it started rising. I don't think you can blame the goalie too much here.

Must be a great feeling to see that one sinking in. For Seidenberg.

Haven't seen a goal like that since NHL '93.
