Legwand was fined for this butt-ending of Evgeni Malkin at 16:14 of the third period, as game-long battles between the two finally resulted in Legwand jabbing Malkin right in the Putins:
Legwand was also given a major penalty and a game misconduct.
Neal, meanwhile, was fined $5,000 for cross-checking Luke Glendening in the head at 5:19 of the second period.
Neal was given a minor penalty.
These fines are the first bit of supplemental discipline from the NHL since March 11, when Blake Comeau was suspended two games for boarding Brendan Smith. Since Jan. 1, we’ve only had nine suspensions and seven fines, taking into account that the NHL was in hiatus during the Sochi Games.
