Conn Smythe Watch: Patrick Kane, Drew Doughty make their moves
By popular demand, Puck Daddy takes its Conn Smythe Watch from the evening Three Stars to every morning of the postseason. Keep in mind that we factor in the probability of a long playoff run into these choices. Who are the current favorites for playoff MVP? Glad you asked.
1. Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers
Lundqvist’s shutout win in Game 6 put the Rangers back into the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 20 years.
2. Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings
Doughty had a goal and set up another in that insane Game 6 third period, and now has 16 points in 20 games. He’s averaging 27:45 per game.
3. Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks
Kane has four game-winning goals and seven points in his last two games. Back to back Conns?
4. Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings
Kopitar still leads the playoffs with 23 points in 20 games, but was shut out in Game 6.
5. Martin St. Louis, New York Rangers
St. Louis has 13 points in 20 games but has two game-winning goals, including that critical Game 4 OT winner.
6. Jeff Carter, Los Angeles Kings
Carter has 21 points in 20 games, but was a minus-3 in Game 6.
7. Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks
Toews had an assist in Game 6 and was 50 percent on faceoffs. He has 16 point in 18 games.
8. Marian Gaborik, Los Angeles Kings
Gaborik has 11 goals in 19 games, leading all scorers, but was shut down in Game 6.
9. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings
We’ll still put him in this discussion because his highs have been so high, but can Quick win with a .906 save percentage?
10. Derek Stepan, New York Rangers
Darkhorse candidate for the Rangers with 13 points in 19 games.
