Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan (a.k.a. Tony Plush) grew up in the Bay Area and followed hockey as a kid after watching the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. During the 1999-200 season, Morgan played seven games with the Regina Pats of the WHL before committing himself to baseball.
Returning to his hockey roots on Wednesday, Morgan suited up with the San Jose Sharks and practiced with the team, even getting a chance to take part in a breakaway drill on goaltender Thomas Greiss:
While a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Morgan visited a Penguins practice in 2007, but growing up in the Bay Area, Morgan noted earlier this week that he'll "never forget the George Kingston and Patty Falloon days." And what glorious days they were at the bottom of the Smythe Division.
Morgan described his hockey style as that of a third-liner capable of bringing some excitement to a game. You can disagree with him on that, but you have to agree that his nickname, "T-Plush", would be welcome in this NHL where adding a "-y" or "-sie" to the end of ones last name has become commonplace.
