Bobby Ryan has no hard feelings for Anaheim Ducks, happy to move on
ARLINGTON, VA -- Bobby Ryan finally got his wish.
After years of rumors of his unhappiness in Anaheim and speculation on which of the Anaheim Ducks' "big three" would get long-term commitments from the team, Ryan was dealt to the Ottawa Senators on July 5 hours after Daniel Alfredsson signed with the Detroit Red Wings.
He'll get a fresh start, a clear mind and fewer media stories wondering about his hockey future for next season. Relief was on his face on Monday at U.S. Olympic orientation camp talking about his new move.
“[I’m] just glad that side of it is done, that I can kind of move forward and focus on just playing games and helping my team win," he said. "Not knowing how you were going to get treated day-to-day in the locker room because you don’t know what the latest rumor was."
In June 2012, Ryan gave an interview to the Courier-Post expressing his unhappiness with the Ducks about his situation with the team. When the Ducks re-signed Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry to separate eight-year deals in March, the writing was on the wall for Ryan.
But despite his public frustration a year ago, Ryan said there was no ill will about the trade.
"It was a very amicable split. There’s no hard feelings or anything like that," he said. "I think a lot of people imagined we had. It was just time to move on and they agreed with it.
"I’m excited that it’s over.”
