Adam Lowry gets 1-game for slamming Patrick Kaleta into the boards

Happy Thanksgiving in the United States, Adam Lowry. Oh, we know you play in Canada with Winnipeg, but the NHL decided to give you a one-game suspension for the below hit on Patrick Kaleta from your Wednesday game against the Sabres.

Look at the video ... it's just ugly from a Kaleta perspective. I mean, his face just gets rubbed into the boards, and way after he gets rid of the puck. His back was turned ... ouch.

Lowry got a major penalty and a game misconduct for the play. And he's going to get fined $4,453.41 as part of the suspension. Kaleta did return to the game later. Also, it was Kaleta's first home game in 14 months.

Said Kaleta to the Buffalo News after the game:

“That’s the way it happens sometimes,” Kaleta said. “If you’ve followed my career you’ll notice I’m attracted to that sort of stuff. It is what it is. I’ll be fine.”

This is Lowry's first year in the NHL, and hence his first suspension, though the Calgarian -- Pierre McGuire moment coming -- once had 90 penalty minutes in 36 games with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League.

Welcome to repeat offender-hood Adam! And happy #merican thanksgiving.
