Apologies to anyone putting strawberry jam on his or her Saturday morning toast, but here's Aaron Voros(notes) of the Anaheim Ducks after their fight-filled exhibition game last night at the San Jose Sharks. This also exactly how Voros would have looked had Linsday Lohan dropped the gloves that night in the club.
The game, a 5-4 win for the Ducks that featured a Corey Perry hat trick, had six fights and 144 penalty minutes between the division rivals. Voros fought twice: Against Jay Leach(notes) in the first and earning an instigator against Jamie McGinn(notes) in the third, giving him three scraps in the preseason. According to the AP, there were five first-period fights:
Bradnon Mashinter and Troy Bodie(notes) threw some haymakers at each other, with Mashinter eventually taking the Ducks player to the ice. 20 seconds later Jamal Mayers(notes) did the same thing to Kyle Chipchura(notes) and the fans were into it. Within 34 seconds of that Jay Leach was in a third fight.
It could/it is ugly between the two rivals. Two bouts at once as Frazer McLaren(notes) and Sheldon Brookbank(notes) has a scrap at the same time that Scott Nichol(notes) and Stephane Veilleux(notes) really laid into each other. In what seemed to be a breech of fighting custom, after the refs broke it up, Veilleux went back after Nichol - he didn't fare any better.
The penalty boxes look pretty humorous with four players apiece in the sin bin.
If any video pops up, Hockey Fights will likely have it. Ah, exhibition season: Like Thunderdome, only you have to buy tickets.
