Sadly, what once was the oldest arena in the NHL will soon be no more. The Pittsburgh Penguins have moved across the street to CONSOL Energy Center, while Mellon Arena awaits its demise. (It received a potential stay of execution last week, as it was nominated as a city historic structure.)

These days as old stadiums and arenas get knocked down, the teams and cities will sell anything and everything from the buildings to fan. From seats to bricks to even urinals, there's nothing that won't come with a price, including melted arena ice.

Earlier this month in Philadelphia, fans were told that for $25, they could go inside the Spectrum and take anything they wanted that was leftover as they prepared to demolish the arena. The event was dubbed, "If You Can Carry It, You Can Keep It".

Now that Mellon Arena is soon to be extinct, the Penguins and the Pittsburgh Sports and Exhibition Authority have opened bidding via Asset Auctions for items ranging from turnstiles to office furniture to a trainers table that maybe was used to ensure Mario Lemieux was able to stand up right as he battled chronic back problems throughout his career. Bidding ends Dec. 8th for all items.

Coming up, we take a look at five keepsakes from Mellon Arena we'd like to take home.

Item: Jim Paek signed Christmas ornament

It's the holiday season and what Christmas tree would be decorated without a Penguins signed ornament by the journeyman defenseman of 217 NHL games? Also available are such names as Ken Priestlay, Jamie Leach, Wendell Young, and the immortal Jan Hrdina among others.

Item: Dry erase board from former assistant coach Mike Yeo's office

For years Penguins fans lost their voices after blaming Yeo for the team's power play woes. Now they'll have their opportunity to see the final preparations for the Penguins' power play that went 0-for-6 in his final game with the team last May in Game 7 against the Montreal Canadiens and create their own more successful ones.

Item: Rocket "Rashard" Richard Trophy case

Did you know about the other "Rashard" brother that played for the Montreal Canadiens back in the day? He was something special. We're a little puzzled about this one seeing as Sidney Crosby(notes) is the only Penguin to win the award tying Steven Stamkos(notes) last season and the trophy was presented to him in June. So when exactly was the "Rashard" Trophy case used in Mellon Arena?

Our favorite part of the item description is, "No key to unlock."

Item: Shower room counter/sink unit

Finally, ever have the desire to wash some blood off your hands in the same sink that Matt Cooke(notes) used? Well, now you can and it even includes motivational signs telling you to "Demand more" and "Keep climbing."

Those messages would have completely different meanings had this been one of the lavatories ...
