Video: Forte’s great touchdown run propels Bears past Bucs

Now, English football fans know what American football fans have seen all season — when it comes to the Chicago Bears offense, you can talk about Jay Cutler, Roy Williams and Devin Hester all you want, but everything really revolves around running back Matt Forte. This was never more obvious than with 8:42 left in the first quarter of Chicago's 24-18 win at Wembley Stadium:

Going into this game, Forte had accounted for an incredible 46.2 percent of his team's offensive yards, a truly amazing feat (Buffalo's Fred Jackson ranked second at 38.7 percent). Not only that, but Forte is also on pace to become the third back in NFL history after Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk to gain over 1,000 yards each rushing and receiving in the same season.

Forte actually increased his percentage in this game by just a little bit — he gained a total of 183 yards and the Bears gained 395 net yards total … that's 46.3 percent. Talk about consistency!

Not only did the Bears win, they also made the NFC North a lot more interesting than it had been all season. With the Detroit Lions falling for the second straight week, the Lions are 5-2, and the Bears have crawled back up to 4-3 after a rocky start. The two teams are separated only by the fact that the Lions beat the Bears earlier this season, and the Nov. 13 rematch at Soldier Field should be very, very interesting.

In the meantime, it's a good opportunity to appreciate Forte as a dark-horse NFL MVP candidate. He's been lighting it up all year in an inconsistent offense, and he's been hamstrung by a terrible offensive line.

On either side of the pond, he's one of the best in the game.
