Tim Tebow’s wild voyage from Heisman winner to folk hero to backup appears as if it could end with him cleaning out his NFL locker very soon.

Tebow stood on the sidelines of New England’s 40-9 loss against the Detroit Lions on Thursday, and never entered the game. Fans in Ford Field were chanting “We want Tebow” in the fourth quarter of that loss, but Patriots coach Bill Belichick was not in agreement.

However, Tebow did not complain about Belichick’s decision after the game.

“I’m a blessed individual,” Tebow told The Boston Globe. “Happy to be here, and whatever I’m asked to do, I’m going to do.”

Unless Tebow has a remarkable showing in the fourth and final preseason game, he might be soon asked to turn in his playbook.

Tebow has played poorly this preseason. He has completed only 5-of-19 passes (26.3 percent) for 54 yards, one interception and no touchdowns. The former first-round draft pick might have sealed his fate when he competed only 1-of-7 passes for -1 yards and one interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 of the preseason.

“You just prepare, and what you are asked to do, you do it 100 percent with everything you have,” he said. “You want everything to go well, but it’s not. There are going to be ups and downs. That’s what life is, and you’ve just got to handle them as best as you possibly can.”

Tebow may have to practice what he preaches if his lack of playing time yesterday is any indication of his NFL future.
