The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reeled in their priority target in free agency, agreeing to terms on a five-year deal with former San Francisco 49ers safety Dashon Goldson, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Goldson's deal is worth $41.25 million and includes $22 million in guaranteed money.

By signing Goldson, the Buccaneers have completed an 11-month renovation of their safety position. The Buccaneers used the seventh overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft on strong safety Mark Barron, who had 88 tackles and an interception while playing next to veteran Ronde Barber during his rookie season.

Goldson has spent the last six seasons with the 49ers, who selected the University of Washington standout in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Goldson sat for much of his first two seasons in the NFL before becoming a full-time starter in 2009. Over the last four seasons, Goldson has 310 tackles, three sacks and 14 interceptions with 34 passes defensed, earning Pro Bowl nods after each of the last two seasons.

2013 was not Goldson's first bite at the free agent apple.

Goldson became an unrestricted free agent in 2011 and drew interest from the New England Patriots, but could not come to terms on a contract. Goldson returned to the 49ers on a one-year, $2 million contract and, after making his first Pro Bowl, received the franchise tag worth $6.212 million. The 49ers elected to not use a second tag on Goldson in 2013 and the veteran did not last 24 hours on the market.
