Having covered the quarterbacks, running backs/wide receivers, tight ends/offensive line, and the OLB/DE/DT stars in previous pre-draft podcasts, it's time to go back to the well with our good friend Greg Cosell of NFL Films and ESPN's NFL Matchup. To finish things off from an evaluation standpoint, Greg takes an inside look at the inside linebackers and defensive backs ready to make an impact once their names are called over the next few days. But first, we discussed Greg's recent mock draft over at the must-read NFL Films blog -- it's caused quite a ruckus, because Mr. Cosell took an unconventional approach
"I didn't do my mock draft the way most people do -- I did it based on what I saw on tape, and [team] needs," Greg said. "The other important point is that I totally disregarded off-field stuff."
The cornerback discussion started with South Carolina's Stephon GIlmore, who Greg had going third overall in his mock, and who we each like at the top cornerback in this class. From there, we cover all the obvious guys -- LSU's Morris Claiborne, North Alabama's Janoris Jenkins, and Alabama's Dre Kirkpatrick. We also circle back and deal with the inside linebackers, like Boston College's Luke Kuechly and Alabama's Dont'a Hightower. We finish with this year's safety class, and a few interesting sleepers at each position based on the tape Greg's watched. As always, we deviate into schematic discussions, high-falutin' conceptual stuff, and random references to various AC/DC songs.
As always with everything involving Greg Cosell, this podcast is a must-listen for those fans of advanced tape analysis.
