Carlos Ortiz is in custody, and a prosecutor says it's in connection with the murder investigation involving former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.

New Britain State's Attorney Brian Preleski said Ortiz, a 27-year-old man from Connecticut, was charged as a fugitive from justice and has waived extradition to Massachusetts, the Associated Press said. He is being held on $1.5 million bail.

Hernandez was charged with murder on Wednesday. Odin Lloyd, an associate of Hernandez, was found dead near Hernandez's house on June 17. Hernandez is being held without bail. Preleski would not reveal the allegations against Ortiz.

During Hernandez's arraignment on Wednesday, the prosecution outlined a chain of events before Lloyd was found shot and killed. Between 9:02 p.m. and 10:23 p.m. on June 16, the prosecution said Hernandez sent three texts to friends out of state to meet with him, and one text to Lloyd that he wanted to get together. The prosecution specified that the final two texts were to a friend in Connecticut, one saying "get your ass up here" and the other to "Hurry your ass up."

Three men departed Hernandez's house in a silver Nissan Altima at 1:12 a.m. on June 17, and the silver Altima picked up Lloyd at 2:32 a.m. Between 3:23 a.m. and 3:27 a.m., at an industrial park near where Lloyd's body is found, workers said they heard gunshots.
