Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch got a raise out of his short holdout

In the end, the Seattle Seahawks wanted to make sure they took care of one of their offensive stars.

Running back Marshawn Lynch ended a six-day holdout and reported to camp on Thursday. Initial reports indicated that Lynch hadn't received any more money from Seattle. That was wrong.

The Seahawks took $1 million in bonus and incentive money and added it to Lynch's 2014 salary. They also added $500,000 to his compensation for this year by giving him a bonus slated for 2015 a year early according to Those moves took his total compensation this season from $5 million to $6.5 million. The Seahawks also forgave Lynch's fines for holding out, which totaled about $500,000, according to

Overall, it was a pretty good win for Lynch considering he didn't have a lot of leverage. Lynch was facing another $225,000 in fines after the sixth day of his holdout, including a bump from $30,000 to $60,000 per day in daily fines. The Seahawks had taken a public stance that they wouldn't change his contract.

It wasn't worth the battle for the Seahawks. They took care of defensive backs Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman this offseason with contract extensions, and even though they probably didn't want to set a precedent for holdouts getting a raise, Lynch was important enough to defending their Super Bowl championship that they gave him a pay bump to get him into camp before the holdout dragged into a second week.
