Rolando McClain has agreed to terms with the Ravens (USA Today Sports Images)
Financial terms were not disclosed, but multiple reports have McClain reaching a one-year deal with the Ravens, which will be finalized following a physical with the team on Friday.
McClain, 23, was waived by the Oakland Raiders last Friday. No teams claimed the 2010 first-round pick out of Alabama, who had two seasons and $10.31 million remaining on his rookie contract.
In 41 games over the last three seasons, McClain has 246 tackles, 6.5 sacks and one interception, but is coming off a tumultuous two seasons. McClain was arrested in January of 2011 after pointing a gun at a man's head and pulling the trigger. McClain was convicted and sentenced to 180 days for that incident, but charges were dropped on appeal when the victim refused to cooperate. McClain started nine of 11 games for the Raiders last season, totaling 62 tackles and a sack. McClain missed the final five games of the season after being suspended by the team for two games following an argument with head coach Dennis Allen.
The two-game suspension voided $3.635 million in fully guaranteed base salary that had remained in McClain's contract. Oakland kept McClain off the 46-man game day roster for the final three weeks of the season and had granted McClain's agent, Pat Dye, permission to seek a trade this offseason.
The Ravens lost both of their starting inside linebackers this offseason. Future Hall of Famer Ray Lewis retired, while Dannell Ellerbe signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Miami Dolphins. The Ravens currently have Jameel McClain and Albert McClellan penciled in as the starting inside linebackers and very little depth behind them. The club recently asked Bryan Hall, a reserve defensive lineman, to shed some weight and move to inside linebacker.
