NFL player agent Drew Rosenhaus has been making the media rounds to discuss the multiple surgeries that his client, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, has undergone this offseason.
Rosenhaus appeared on the "Joe Rose Show" on WQAM in his home base of Miami, Florida and also appeared on ESPN's SportsCenter. During that SportsCenter appearance, Rosenhaus disclosed that after Gronkowski awoke from last week's surgery, the fourth on his left forearm in the last six months, the two-time All-Pro tight end said he was changing agents.
"Typical Rob. As soon as he woke up, he joked, ‘Hey, I’m firing you.’ I said, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I’m letting you go. I’m going to hire Jay-Z'", Rosenhaus said, via Larry Brown Sports.
"He was joking with me. That’s the great Rob Gronkowski. Immediately after surgery in the recovery room he’s cracking jokes about letting me go as his agent. He’s one of a kind. Nothing’s going to slow this guy down. He’s a ton of fun to represent and an amazing client."
On June 8, 2012, less than a year ago, Rosenhaus negotiated Gronkowski's six-year, $54 million extension with the Patriots that included $18.17 million in guaranteed money. Even with that deal in his back pocket, we're guessing that Rosenhaus, as well as lot of NFL agents, get a little nervous whenever they hear their clients mention or even listen to Jay-Z these days.
