Report: 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks fined nearly $16K for hit on Saints' Drew Brees

Former NFL linebacker Ray Lewis offered to pay half of Ahmad Brooks’ potential fine for a hit against New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Lewis better be ready to put a check in the mail.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the San Francisco linebacker was fined nearly $16,000 for hitting Brees in the neck on Sunday. Lewis owes Brooks around $8,000 if he plans to stand by his fellow linebacker.

Despite the disapproval of that penalty by some NFL observers, Dean Blandino, the NFL's vice president of officiating, said his officials made the right call. Blandino said even though Brooks initially hit Brees in the chest, he earned a penalty when his arm rose and hit the quarterback in the throat.

Fortunately, for Brooks, he will not have to pay the entire fine.
