The Dolphins front office has indicated that they want Trent Green to come back to the team in '08, which makes me wonder if every Dolphins employee continually takes massive blows to the head, or just Trent Green.
Green is 37 years old, and will be 38 before next season starts. He started four games for the Dolphins last year, never had a single-game QB rating over 90, and twice was in the 50s. His final QB rating was 72.6, and for comparison's sake, Cleo Lemon's was 71.0.
That's not much of a difference, and Lemon has the added benefits of being younger, more mobile (which is to say, mobile at all), and is way more likely to be able to tell you his first name within 30 seconds of being asked.
It's nothing against Trent Green ... in fact, I like him. He seems like a very nice person, and has had a fantastic career. He's got a Super Bowl ring, he's been to the Pro Bowl twice, and has had some all-world years in Kansas City and St. Louis.
But frankly, I don't want to see the man on the field again. I saw this happen (that's a terrible video, and I apologize), and I saw this happen ... and if something like that happens again, I don't want to be sitting there watching it, crossing my fingers in the hope that Trent Green will someday be able to eat solid food again.
If doctors clear him, I guess I'm in no position to say anything about it, but man ... it would be really uncomfortable to see him under center in a tackle football league. I'd call Trent Green and tell him this if there wasn't a 45% chance that he'd suffer a concussion in the act of putting the phone to his ear.
