Oregon State wideout Brandin Cooks made himself some money at the NFL scouting combine this weekend.
Not just figuratively, in the rising-draft-stock way (although that's true, too), but literally as well.
With his 4.33-second 40-yard dash, Cooks will take home $100,000 from Adidas, which pledged the money to the fastest athlete at the combine who wore its footwear. Cooks logged the time wearing the adizero 5-Star 40 shoe, which Adidas claims to have the world’s lightest track spike.
A few other players earned $10,000 for pacing their positions in the 40. The individual position winners included Miami QB Stephen Morris (4.63), Missouri RB Henry Josey (4.43), former Oregon TE Colt Lyerla (4.61), Boston College LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (4.51) and Rice CB Phillip Gaines, who almost caught Cooks with a 4.38.
Cooks, though, was cooking just a little more. Before he has signed his first pro contract, he'll have a little spending money. And you can bet he'll be keeping his new shoes, as well.
