Someone go check on Rex Ryan.
In the past few days, the New York Jets head coach has watched the rival New England Patriots sign his former star cornerback, Darrelle Revis, from under his nose and then had the fallback option, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, sign a five-year contract with the crosstown New York Giants.
This was after, mind you, Ryan's own team cut Antonio Cromartie (DRC's cousin) and his $9.5 million salary, even with him being the Jets' best corner last season.

The Rodgers-Cromartie signing, along with adding former Seahawks corner Walter Thurmond the other day, makes the Giants' secondary look vastly different. The Giants now have a formidable top three with those two and Prince Amukamara, and it could lead to the cutting of former second-rounder Corey Webster.
Rodgers-Cromartie was playing some of his best ball in 2013 down the stretch for the runner-up Denver Broncos and yet caught some people off guard by openly talking about retirement prior to the Super Bowl. He later backtracked from the statement and said he intended to keep playing. The Giants clearly were undaunted by that: According to several reports, it's a five-year deal worth a maximum of $35 million.
The NFC East features myriad different types of receivers, and DRC often was asked to cover some of the Broncos' best opponents last season. But he also has been up and down in his career, prone to mental lapses. Will Tom Coughlin be able to get the best out of him? That remains to be seen.
But the Jets wanted Rodgers-Cromartie badly and now must try to dip into a pool of free-agent corners — likely minus Cromartie, who is the best of the bunch but might not be wild about returning to the Jets at a much lower cost — that looks awfully thinned.
Ryan can't be happy about how this all has gone down the past few days.
