Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh can stop watching Jerry Maguire to figure out how to represent himself during contract negotiations.
After all the speculation about Suh possibly representing himself, apparently he has gone the traditional route and signed with a real sports agent.
Well, that is no fun.
Sexton is respected – same can be said for Eugene Parker and Roosevelt Barnes, the agents Suh fired in January – but it would have been interesting to see what he could have pulled off individually.
Suh is a pretty smart man, but he would have gone against people who put together contracts for a living. Even if you can represent yourself in court, it makes more sense to hire an attorney. Suh is entering the final year of his rookie contract. His salary cap charge will exceed $22 million in 2014, but the Lions are interested in giving him a long-term extension.
We can only hope Suh made Sexton work for the right to represent him.
