The brother of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones has sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of a shooting in Gulf Shores, Ala. This is the second gun-related incident to strike the Falcons' wide receivers this month.
Philip Jones was shot in the arm at a residence in Gulf Shores. The injuries from the gunshot necessitated the removal of the arm, according to local news reports. Police have arrested a suspect but indicated that the investigation into the shooting continues.
Last week, Tyrone Moore Jr., brother of Roddy White, was shot to death outside a Charleston, S.C. club. White, in mourning with his family, missed this week's OTAs.
"Roddy and his family are going through a very difficult time right now," Falcons coach Mike Smith told assembled media. "I spent time with Roddy last week. These are not mandatory sessions. Our thoughts and prayers are still with Roddy and his family in this difficult time."
Jones, who is still recovering from a foot injury that cost him most of last season, did not practice with the team either.
