New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin has been unable to lead his team to the playoffs during the last two seasons.

That is when having two Super Bowl championships on your résumé is useful.

Coughlin told reporters at the NFL scouting combine that he had agreed to a one-year contact extension, and that will carry him through the 2015 season. According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, Coughlin will earn around $7 million a year.

New York finished 7-9 after beginning the 2013 season 0-6. Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw 18 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, which contributed to the disappointing season. New York hired offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo in January to help solve its problems.

Coughlin will have at least one more year to turn around the Giants, and history proves he has that ability.
