Garcia latest in long line of QBs to dump on Raiders

It's been a bad time for the Raiders and quarterbacks. It's not just that current signal-caller JaMarcus Russell(notes) is playing at a level that would have him booted out of the UFL -- a conga line of ex- (and soon-to-be-ex-) quarterbacks are lining up, ready to take their shots at Russell and the way the team has seemingly set him up for failure. Russell's lack of preparation, poor physical shape and lack of production are tolerated by the franchise beyond any reasonable point, and those that used to do it better and now analyze the game for a living aren't impressed.

Ex-Oakland QB Rich Gannon busted out the whoopin' stick on SIRIUS NFL Radio, questioning everything from Russell's predetermined reads to his mechanics, from head to toe, to his weight. Earlier this week, Trent Green(notes) did video analysis of Russell and Drew Brees(notes) on the NFL Network's Total Access show, with predictable results. Then, Jeff Garcia(notes), a guy with a stake in playing in the league (not to mention someone who's recently been rumored to be discussing a possible backup gig with Oakland after the Eagles released him after he ... uh ... requested his release from Oakland) had his say about Russell on Fox Sports Radio:

I just feel like it's an unfortunate situation when the entire work ethic and the entire goal of the team is really put upon one guy's shouldes who really isn't maybe ready for that situation ... and I'm not saying JaMarcus can never be that guy. It's just right now he's still young. He has a lot of growth that needs to take place within himself from a mental standpoint and a physical standpoint. ... When you put him on the field in a one-on-one workout session, he'll make every throw for you, but when it comes down to making things happen in the heat of the battle and rallying the troops around you and making a case for the team, that's where maybe things aren't where they need to be.

Well, that about sums it up. Gannon is no longer welcome in the Raiders' facility after daring to discuss the dysfunction, so my bet's against any sort of Garcia-Raiders reunion.
