Of all the things you can do on an NFL field, throwing a punch at an opponent wearing a helmet is one of the dumbest.
Rams defensive end Chris Long has probably learned his lesson.
Things got chippy in the third quarter of the Panthers-Rams game. Panthers receiver Steve Smith, unsurprisingly, seemed to be one of the instigators. Then things boiled over in a scrum and Long lost his composure. He threw a punch.
He was ejected (obviously) and didn't hurt his intended target (obviously) in the Rams' 30-15 loss.
Long will probably have regrets for that punch, and even more when the NFL fines him for it.
Long also apparently had an incident with some unruly Panthers fans as he left the field. He tweeted the following after the game.
Thanks Carolina fans 4 the flipped birds+few bottles to the head. Sticks n stones may break my bones but aluminum zimas will never hurt me.— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) October 20, 2013
