The Thursday night matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles isn't really of the marquee variety, but that doesn't mean the announcing crew isn't the best around. And if you haven't heard the NFL Network duo of Mike Mayock and Brad Nessler, you're in for a treat. And we got to talk to both of them Thursday — regarding this game and other things.
Mayock talks about how the Philadelphia secondary has disappointed from a schematic perspective, why the "wide-9" isn't the Eagles' only problem with it comes to run defense, and how the offense no longer runs through Michael Vick or Vince Young — this is all about LeSean McCoy now.
On the Seattle side, Mayock discussed the improved performance of Marshawn Lynch, and how the redefined Seahawks secondary has presented promise and problems in interesting doses.
Nessler's podcast is a bit more wide-ranging — appropriate for a guy who's fitting Thursday night's call in-between two college basketball games this week. He first talks about how he got back in the booth for pro football (and specifically for the NFL Network), how great it is to work with Mayock when the two have known each other for so long, how his background in radio gives him certain advantages in the booth, and what his crazy travel schedule looks like at times.
Of course, he has a lot to say about the game as well — from the Eagles' surprising determination to play all out for Andy Reid, to his re-introduction to Pete Carroll, there are many interesting stories here.
