Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe's arrest for speeding and alleged marijuana possession couldn't have come at a much worse time.
Bowe was arrested Sunday, seven days before the 9-0 Chiefs battle the 8-1 Broncos in Denver. But Bowe's lawyer said he has done nothing wrong.
Here's the statement Bowe's attorney released to the Kansas City Star:
“My investigation reveals that Dwayne Bowe is unequivocally, 100 percent innocent in this matter,” attorney Kevin E.J. Regan said to the Star. “We look forward to clearing his good name at our earliest opportunity.
“Mr. Bowe has long been a giving member of our community, and he remains committed to giving Kansas City his best on and off the field.
“He is grateful for the support shown by Chiefs fans and promises this incident will not be a distraction to his commitment to excellence on the football field."
Commitment to excellence, eh? Late Raiders owner Al Davis would be so proud to hear one of his catchphrases used by a division rival (or at least his attorney). And here's the time to make your jokes about Bowe fitting right in with the Raiders' mystique after his arrest.
Bowe apologized via a statement to the Chiefs' ownership, his teammates and coaches and the fans for causing a distraction this week. It probably won't matter too much, considering Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Bowe will play his normal role as the legal matter runs its course.
In other words, Bowe will be available to just win baby.
