Doug Baldwin vs. Cris Carter.

Winning the Super Bowl lets you settle a lot of scores. Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin had been carrying a cinder block-sized chip on his shoulder from the criticism leveled at him and his teammates, and as soon as he could, he hurled that chip away.

Commentators, most notably ESPN's Cris Carter, denigrated the Seattle receiving corps prior to both the NFC championship and the Super Bowl, calling them "pedestrian" and "appetizers." But Baldwin totaled 66 yards and a touchdown, and his fellow receiver Jermaine Kearse had 64 yards and another touchdown. And when asked about the pregame comments regarding his skills, Baldwin didn't hesitate.

"OK, y'all listen to me loud and clear. Y'all listening? Y'all hear me? For all y'all who called us, the receiving corps, average, pedestrian, appetizers—I'm not going to say any names, but he knows who he is—I respect what you did on the field, but stick to playing football, because your analytical skills ain't up to par yet. You need to slow down and go back and not do it half-assed and put some effort into it, because you're saying some stuff that didn't really make sense."

Oh, but he wasn't done. Baldwin zeroed in on Carter:

"That dude who said that we were appetizers, he told me to Google him, and I did Google him, but I didn't see any Super Bowl appearances, and I also saw two losses in conference championships. I have a Super Bowl ring, and I would gladly show that to him. And if he doesn't have time to come see it, tell him he can Google it."

Carter, never at a loss for words, returned fire. "The reason why they were on the field is because the two starting receivers happened to be hurt," he said on ESPN. "I didn’t make that up. And I’m glad Doug Baldwin — I’m glad they’re playing well. But they’re not the only professionals to have someone say on TV, or a coach, that you couldn’t play. I got cut. So they need to get over it.”

Mr. Baldwin. You won a Super Bowl. Enjoy it. Mr. Carter. They proved you wrong. Admit it. Now, let's move on, shall we?
