What’s your deal? Seahawks run a fake punt while hanging on to a 30-point lead in the fourth quarter (VIDEO)

There used to be a time when Pete Carroll was bothered by teams running up the score. Of course, he was all about sportsmanship when it was his team having the score run up against it.

The same guy who famously scolded Jim Harbaugh for going for a two-point conversion with a huge lead while Carroll was at USC and Harbaugh was at Stanford didn't care so much about Buffalo coach Chan Gailey's feelings on Sunday.

With Seattle ahead 47-17 in the fourth quarter against the Bills, Carroll called for a fake punt.

The snap went to the upback, who handed it off on a reverse, and Michael Robinson picked up 29 yards to the Buffalo 14. Seattle passed on three of its next five plays but couldn't get the touchdown so it settled for a field goal and a 33-point lead.

There shouldn't be a problem with running up the score in the NFL. All of the players are professionals and they signed up for 60 minutes of football. If a team wants to keep passing or running trick plays until the final seconds tick off the clock, big deal. It's just odd that this rub-it-in moment came from Carroll, who gave us a catchphrase years ago by asking Harbaugh, "What's your deal?" after Harbaugh ordered a two-point conversion with a 48-27 lead.

Mr. Sportsmanship didn't mind when he was the one piling it on, however.

With the field goal off the fake punt, the Seahawks became the first NFL team since the 1950 Giants to score 50 points in back-to-back games. Maybe that's why Carroll decided to go for the fake in the fourth quarter.

If not, someone probably needs to ask Carroll ... what's your deal?
