Cris Carter refuses to go on Indy’s zip line (video)

The 80-foot-high, 650-foot-long zip line that Indianapolis erected over a three-block section of downtown has been a big hit during Super Bowl week. Former NFL wide receiver, current ESPN analyst and perennial Hall of Fame hopeful Cris Carter does not share that sentiment.

Carter was hooked in and ready for his zip line adventure when he chickened out at the last second, much to the delight of his colleagues:

I'd have been equally uncomfortable with that zip line, so I can't take any shots at Carter for refusing to take off from six-stories high.

What's with his voice, though? I figured his "NFL Countdown" schtick was just that: schtick. Apparently he talks like that all the time? Or is it just when the camera's running?

    Thanks, Yardbarker

I like how people try to use their size, age or gender to punk people when it comes to zip lining or parachuting. I see comment after comment " I'm 150lbs and I'm not afraid" or "I'm a girl and I do it" or "My 14 year old wants to do it." Look, I don't care if you are 50lbs or 300lbs, male or female, young or old. When you fall from six stories up, we ALL go SPLAT! and we all die. PERIOD. Telling me you are smaller or younger than me but aren't afraid isn't going to make me feel like a punk because there's nothing manly or brave about zip lining. It's just STUPID. If YOU want to do something stupid for a thrill, be my guest. Just be sure to tell your family not to get angry when people laugh at your death by stupidity. And please stop comparing it to what military personnel do because they zipline or parchute for a practical purpose, to get into a hard to reach area in a hurry. Not to get a stupid, cheap thrill..

Exactly. Let the morons jump to their death. It's not called natural selection for nothing. Also, to add to the military. They were trained to parachute and zipline.

....the sport of skydiving is overseen by the FAA...their main concern is safety, safety, safety...there is much accountability and licensing involved to promote safety with students, instructors, and also pilots. Ziplining is overseen by who ? Bungee jumping is overseen by who also ! You risk your life on the assumption that whoever put together the apparatus is an expert in engineering and design. Are they ? Do you even care ?

Cris Carter's other fear is seeing Brett Favre on the opposing sideline.

...sporting activities such as skydiving are overseen by the FAA...whose primary role is to ensure basic observance of safety and proper licensing by all parties involved...students, instructors, and even pilots. Ziplining, bungee jumping, base jumping are "you do it at your own risk" because they don't have any agency overseeing those activies...therefore the issue of safety becomes one of assumption on your part (that these people even know what the hell they're doing, both with the design and construction of this apparatus). Good luck !

All I got to say is "Remember Owen Hart." Smart move Carter. I would of done the same thing.

That dude would go over the middle and get destroyed by Safeties and Linebackers but a zipline scares him? Our brains work in strange ways.

Maybe yours works in strange ways, but common sense tells you that falling over 80 feet to the ground isn't the same as getting hit in full pads.

"Cris Carter refuses to attempt suicide" is more like it.

Ziplining is great fun ... and safe. Last year, I went ziplining in S Korea, where I currently live. A truck trip to the top of a mountain ... and then, over a period of about 3 hours, 9 seperate zipline "runs" down the mountain, through the forest.. The shortest run was about 160 yards, while the longest was about 340 yards. With 2 instructors and about 15 people in the group ... each person, including my 105-pound wife, took his/her turn on each run. The group included children as young as 9 or 10 years old, although the children had to "double up" with an adult on each run. And, I'm 65 years old. No suicide ... and no reason to chicken out. Just good, exhilerating FUN.

I'm not going to knocked the guy for something he does not feel comfortable in doing, especially just to please someone else. However,if the Hall Of Fame committee had told him a guarantee selection this weekend if he zipline,i would bet my last dollar that he would ziplined all over the City of Indy, along with some of the suburbs.
