Lawrence has to be grateful for Jones’ decision to use a second-round draft pick on him recently. The former Boise State defensive end is expected to replace DeMarcus Ware, who was released in March. Ware eventually signed with the Denver Broncos.
In addition, Lawrence owes Apple gratitude for the iPhone.
Lawrence was attending Dallas’ rookie minicamp during the birth of his son, Damari. He watched his son’s birth on an iPhone on Thursday morning, according to The Dallas Morning News. Well, that is one way to stop playing Angry Birds.
Of course, Lawrence flew out to Boise, Idaho, to meet his son before flying back to Dallas on Friday night.
"It motivates me a lot knowing I got a mouth to feed," Lawrence told The Dallas Morning News. "It’s not just about me anymore. I got a little son now so really it all about him, how I raise him and how I put food on the table for him."
Lawrence was so moved by the birth of his son, he was still wearing the hospital wristband at practice on Saturday.
"It just opened my eyes and made me think, ‘Dang, I got a son and now I’ve got football’," Lawrence told The Dallas Morning News. "After I leave the house and I am on the football field, my whole focus is on football. After football, then my focus is on my son."
Lawrence has a good excuse for avoiding diaper duty right now, but there are no iPhone apps that will keep him from participating in that aspect of parenthood in the future.
