Shutdown Corner

The Cleveland Browns’ Twitter feed against Jacksonville was a descent into madness

Running the Twitter feed for a team has to be one of the tougher jobs in social media. ("Tough" being a relative term when you're talking "jobs in social media," of course.) You've got to be a cheerleader, without a doubt, but what if your team just stinks on ice? What do you do then?

Take, for example, Sunday's thriller between Cleveland and Jacksonville. ("Thriller" being a relative term when you're talking "Cleveland and Jacksonville," of course.) The game seesawed back and forth, and watching the Browns' Twitter feed was like watching someone's mind unravel in real time.

First, there was the excitement of game day:

GAME TIME!!!! #JAXvsCLE

Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 1, 2013

And then it got better with two touchdowns!

TOUCHDOWN @WillisMcGahee!!!!!!

— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 1, 2013

TOUCHDOWN @JOSH_GORDONXII!!!!!!!!

— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 1, 2013

Ah, but then Brandon Weeden got involved:

.@bweeden3 intended the pass for TE Jordan Cameron, but, it is intercepted. #JAXvsCLE

— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 1, 2013

And after Weeden turned over the ball three times in three minutes at the end of the first half, the resignation set in:

And again, @bweeden3 is intercepted. #JAXvsCLE

— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 1, 2013

Then the story turned a little darker:

#Browns WR Josh Gordon has been taken to locker room for evaluation for a head injury. His return to the game is questionable.

— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 1, 2013

He got better:

Can you feel the tension?

It's a close one. We're now under the 2-minute warning. #JAXvsCLE

— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 1, 2013

Another Auburn miracle afoot, right?

Um ... no.

FINAL SCORE: @Jaguars 32 @Browns 28 #JAXvsCLE

— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 1, 2013

The rest was silence.

We'd love to see just how many tweets were written and deleted before they were sent. Good news, Mr. or Ms. Browns Tweeter: you hung onto your job. Bad news: your job is still with the Cleveland Browns.
