Chris Johnson’s touching Sandy Hook tribute, spectacular run were the sole highlights of Monday Night Football

If you didn't watch the "Monday Night Football" showdown between the Jets and Titans, consider yourself fortunate. This was an indisputably wretched game, a race for the bottom that the Jets "won" by virtue of five humiliating turnovers. Titans 14, Jets 10, the rest of us 0.

The one highlight, however, was a very good one indeed. Chris Johnson, the Titans running back who's earned his share of detractors for his inconsistency, delivered both on and off the field. His 94-yard touchdown run, shown above, was the Titans' franchise-longest run and the second-longest in MNF history. While it didn't seal the game — the Titans were too inept to hold off even the Jets until the final play of the game — it provided a much-needed lift for Tennessee fans.

Johnson also took time before the game to write the names of every single Sandy Hook victim on his shoes. This is a moving tribute:

"It's something to try to give back and show tribute to those families," Johnson said. "I know how much they hurt. I felt like it was a good deed."

Johnson's run was his sixth of 80-plus yards, an NFL record. It's the third such run this season, and certainly the most meaningful, all things considered. When asked for his recollections surrounding his run and his shoes, Johnson noted that he was "just thinking about those kids all week and the whole game," he said. "Just how fortunate it is for us to come out every Sunday and Monday and play on this field."
