Josh McCown scrambles against the Redskins (USA Today Sports Images)
Josh McCown is an 11-year NFL veteran who was thrust into the Chicago Bears' starting role when Jay Cutler was lost to a serious groin injury against the Washington Redskins. And McCown acquitted himself rather well, too, given the circumstances.
But that doesn't mean Bears fans quite know who is he is just yet. As the game played out, CBS Chicago noticed they were taking to Twitter to discuss the play of ... former Bears first-round bust Cade McNown.
Yes Mr. Cade Mcnown! Bye bye Jay Cutler you soft little girl!— Phil Tsilis (@chicbears1) October 20, 2013
Cade Mcnown did a great job replacing that loser Cutler!— Phil Tsilis (@chicbears1) October 21, 2013
and that's the Cade McNown we knew— Brian Malone (@ChiCityBrian) October 20, 2013
Cade McNown.....save us bruh— Carl3Hunna (@seniodatdude) October 20, 2013
Oh sure, it has been 11 years since McNown last took a snap in the NFL, and 13 since his short-lived Bears career ended. But that didn't stop some dyslexic fans from jumbling letters and losing the last decade of time.
At least McCown wasn't confused with one of his football-playing brothers, Luke or the mostly forgotten Randy, who was sort of the Daniel Baldwin of that family, as far as playing prowess go.
But it apparently is going to take a lot for McCown to exorcise the demons of McNown. Sadly, with Cutler out, he'll get his chance. Basically, no one wins in this deal.
