The Washington Redskins' acquisition of Donovan McNabb(notes) on Sunday woke NFL fans up from a long, deep slumber of football inactivity. It was huge news.

High-profile teams were involved, a superstar player was involved, the move was unexpected, and it sets up all kinds of cool stuff for the future. Whether it made them happy or sad, most everyone had a reaction. It captured the attention of not just diehard NFL fans, but sports fans throughout the country.

Except for one guy, who wasn't made happy or sad by the trade, but rather, was just annoyed that it happened. That would be MLB commissioner Bud Selig. Said Budro (via Redskins Journal):

"I was watching an unnamed channel and [the McNabb trade] was all they were talking about. I turned it off."

Awww, I'm sorry, Bud. I know you'd rather your sport had the spotlight to itself on opening night, which occurs on the night before opening day, but think of it this way: Now you know how the rest of us feel when we're interested in something else in sports, and a transcript of "SportsCenter" might read something like this.:

Red Sox, Yankees, Red Sox, Yankees. Sox, Yanks. BeckettARodYoukRivera. Red Sox? YANKS! Yanks? RED SOX! YANKEES RED SOX YANKEES RED SOX, RED YANKEE SOX, MY GOODNESS JETER IS HANDSOME SOX SOX SOX YANKEES YANKEES YANKEES AND LET ME REMIND YOU AGAIN THAT DEREK JETER IS SO SO SO CLUTCH."

So those are the breaks, Mr. Selig. Sometimes things happen, and it takes some shine away from Red Sox/Yankees. Sometimes, other things happen, and it doesn't matter, because ESPN's already decided that Red Sox/Yankees is going to be crammed down your gullet whether you like it or not.

If you're worried that ESPN shortchanged you on the attention given to a Red Sox vs. Yankees matchup, I have a feeling they'll make it up to you later in the year.

Gracias, The Huddle.
