According to former NFL agent Joel Corry, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed running back LeGarrette Blount to a one-year extension worth $1.75 million.

Blount was scheduled to be a restricted free agent this offseason. The Buccaneers could have placed a $1.323 million "right of first refusal" tender on Blount, but as an undrafted free agent, they would not have received any draft choice compensation had he signed an offer sheet with another club. Blount's $1.75 million deal is closer to the "second round" tender, which would have been worth $2.023 million.

Restricted free agent tenders are not guaranteed and, according to a source with knowledge of the extension, Blount received no guaranteed money as part of his extension. As reported by Corry, Blount's deal includes a $150,000 workout bonus, $350,000 "reporting" bonus and, if he makes the Bucs' 53-man roster, a $1.25 million base salary.

After rushing for over 1,000 yards with six touchdowns as a rookie, and gaining 1,788 yards with 11 touchdowns over his first two seasons with the Buccaneers, Blount had a virtually non-existent role with the team last season. Blount lost the starting job to first-round running back Doug Martin and, according to official playing-time documents, had just 92 offensive snaps on the season. In 13 games, Blount had 41 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns, though at 247 pounds, he could carve out a role as a short-yardage or goal-line back for the Buccaneers this season.
