Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning says his leg is sore and will get a MRI on Monday

The Denver Broncos, the state of Colorado, NBC, the NFL offices and pretty much everyone outside of Missouri will be holding their breath to hear Monday's update on Peyton Manning's leg.

Manning was hit low late in Sunday's game by San Diego Chargers end Corey Liuget. Liuget hit Manning on his right knee after he released a pass. Manning stayed down, tried to get up, then went down again as panic set in for Broncos fans. Manning got up, moved around OK, and didn't even miss a play because the Broncos had called timeout. He finished the game.

But the Broncos aren't taking any chances on the health of the NFL's MVP through 10 weeks.

Manning has been very durable for most of his career, other than the 2011 season he missed because of multiple neck injuries. Based on the fact that he stayed in the game and was moving around reasonably well after getting hit, it would be surprising if he didn't play in an enormous AFC West showdown on Sunday night against 9-0 Kansas City.

But the Broncos have to be concerned that they aren't protecting Manning that well. He has taken some big hits in their last few games, including the one by Liuget. The left tackle situation is a mess, as Chris Clark has been inadequate replacing Ryan Clady, Denver's Pro Bowl left tackle who will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

It's hard to imagine Manning would have stayed in for the rest of Sunday's game if he had a serious knee injury. But the Broncos will be relieved if the tests come back clean.
